Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) means providing people with the knowledge, values and skills they need to shape a sustainable and future-oriented society. ESD goes far beyond environmental education - it promotes a deep understanding of the interactions between ecological, economic and social systems and emphasizes responsible, future-oriented action. Topics such as climate protection, resource conservation, social justice and sustainable management are at the heart of this, so that learners develop the ability to understand complex interrelationships and make sustainable decisions.
The challenges of our time - climate change, environmental pollution, resource scarcity and social inequalities - require a fundamental rethink and action at both global and local level. Education for sustainable development plays a central role because it empowers people to actively work towards a fairer, environmentally conscious and resilient world. Through ESD, young people learn to recognize global challenges in everyday life and in their living environment and to develop solutions. In the long term, education for sustainable development creates the basis for a society that uses its resources responsibly and maintains a balance between the needs of present and future generations.
Tres'OR specifically integrates education for sustainable development into the school curriculum in the Upper Rhine region. The project develops materials and modules that support teachers in teaching sustainability topics in an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented manner. These materials range from projects on resource conservation and climate protection to content on social justice and sustainable consumer behavior. In addition, Tres'OR offers training courses that support teachers and educational staff in integrating ESD into their everyday school life and promoting an active, sustainable school culture. In this way, the project helps young people in the Upper Rhine region to grow into responsible citizens who want to shape their future and the future of their region in a sustainable way.
